JAMB NEWS: JAMB Remains the Sole Authorized Body for Tertiary Admissions in Nigeria — Ministry of Education Clarifies
The Federal Ministry of Education (FME) has issued an important clarification debunking a misleading publication circulating online, which falsely claimed that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer mandatory for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
In an official press release dated 16th October 2025, the Ministry reaffirmed that JAMB remains the only authorized and legally recognized body responsible for coordinating entrance examinations and managing admissions into all Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, described the viral reports as false, baseless, and misleading, emphasizing that the Ministry did not issue or authorize any such statement.
At no point did the Ministry issue or authorize any statement suggesting that JAMB is no longer mandatory for admission into tertiary institutions,” Dr. Alausa stated.
JAMB Role in Nigeria’s Admission Process
The Ministry clarified that JAMB remains a statutory and legally empowered body established by law to conduct entrance examinations and coordinate admissions into tertiary institutions.
All existing admission processes through JAMB remain fully operational, and any publication claiming otherwise should be disregarded in its entirety.
Students, parents, and the general public are therefore urged to rely only on official communication channels of the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB for accurate and verified information regarding admissions.
Commitment to Transparency and Fairness
Dr. Alausa reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to maintaining transparency, fairness, and due process in Nigeria’s tertiary education system.
He also assured Nigerians that the collaboration between JAMB and relevant education agencies remains strong, ensuring that merit and due process continue to guide all admission decisions.
The Ministry further cautioned media houses, bloggers, and online publishers to verify all education-related reports before publication, to avoid misleading the public and spreading false information capable of causing confusion within the education sector.
Official Statement by the Ministry
According to the release signed by Boroiwo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education:
There has been no change in the existing role of JAMB, which remains central and indispensable in Nigeria’s tertiary education framework. Any publication or online post claiming otherwise is entirely false and should be treated as such.
